Alejandro Morales Hernández graduated from Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas, Cuba in 2014 with a major in Computer Science. He completed a Master's degree in Computer Science at this institution in 2019. His Master's research topic focused on the exploration of diversity measures and ensembles of classifiers. He holds a joint Ph.D. in Business Economics and Computer Science Engineering from Hasselt University and Ghent University in Belgium. During his PhD, Alejandro Morales Hernández worked on different topics related to (1) novel and improved machine learning models for time series forecasting, (2) machine learning for optimization of (expensive or time-consuming) experiments (together with FlandersMake, Belgium) disturbed by noise, and (3) hyperparameter optimization of machine learning models.
Alejandro Morales Hernández served as a Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Science at Hasselt University and has been responsible for 4 years for the practical sessions of the course Introduction to Information Systems. Additionally, he is a member of Flanders Make@UHasselt, associated with Hasselt University since June 2022. Before that, he worked as a Teaching Instructor in the Computer Science Department at the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas, Cuba, from October 2017 to November 2019, imparting knowledge in Data Structure and Algorithms, and Programming. Currently, he is a post-doctoral researcher in the Machine Learning Group at ULB and focuses on time series forecasting for mobility data problems.
